I discovered that wearing a wetsuit is like wearing a giant waterwing - very comforting.

I third or fourth the notion of getting in the water early and getting used to it. If the water is cold it is a challenge to put your face in and it may make you hyperventilate. That's okay. If you need to just roll on your back until you calm down. And then remember that in fact you DO know how to swim and then start swimming. You'll be fine!21stCenturyMomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02370504811536749950noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14310064.post-41334314843730200662008-04-27T14:51:00.000-05:002008-04-27T14:51:00.000-05:00I'll be cheering for you from here! Then when it comes to the actually swim, RELAX, find your stroke and rhythm, move forward. Take a breast stroke to sight if you need to until you get used to it. You can also practice sighting in the pool.

Your first tri is going to be so exciting! Take everything in and enjoy. There are all ages, shapes and abilities out there. :-)Stef0115https://www.blogger.com/profile/05803971928926890921noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14310064.post-70534000915506643992008-04-26T18:19:00.000-05:002008-04-26T18:19:00.000-05:00I did my first triathlon (with an OW swim) without...I did my first triathlon (with an OW swim) without ever practicing in open water, and it was fine. Also, I didn't have a wetsuit.

Some things I found different than swimming in a pool were the crowdedness and bumping around in the beginning, and it was cold.

Good luck!! So you will do great!!I echo Lisa's advice. Get there early and get in the water for about 20 min. so your body can acclimate to the water..I didn't do this my first open water tri and swam backstroke almost the whole race..I learned..SWTrigalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04514013348327672673noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14310064.post-13582632992001117732008-04-25T21:17:00.000-05:002008-04-25T21:17:00.000-05:00Of course you can do it.
