THIS IS IT!

I am here in Galena. My bike is in T1. Everything is unloaded and organized. I am getting ready to go to dinner with Iron Snoopy, Moose, and Kurt. I feel confident and positive. Tomorrow is my day.

Goals:

  • To finish the swim and enjoy it.
  • To complete my first tri.
  • No time goals --learn and enjoy.

THE SWIM IS ON!

At 10am this morning when I checked the website for Galena, those 4 words appeared. The water temperature is still 59 but it is a go. I felt like jumping up out of my skin. The emotions are like riding a roller coaster. By no means do I down play the bike and the run, but for me this is about the swim.

This morning at swim was great preparation also. Coach had us do some drills going around a fit ball in the water. We did right and left turns. Then we worked on how it felt for our entire group to take off together. I got hit and kicked. We were all laughing when we were done.

Tonight I began the packing process. There are piles everywhere. Hubby is out of town all weekend so Bino and I are leaving in the morning. Hooch is going to school because her physics class is going to Six Flags to study and do a project on roller coasters. So we are all heading different directions.

I think global warming is B.S. and/or the Tri-gods are against me. Water temperature is still at 59. Air temp will be in the upper 40's at race time. I realize that if the swim is off on Saturday there will be other ones but I feel like that I have been a little kid waiting for Xmas.

I had a nice easy 3 mile run tonight. It felt great out on this crisp evening.

Nice and easy was the theme for today's workouts. Swim was 1500 which included a broken 1050. I concentrated on breathing and form . This evening I rode my trainer for 30 min. Everyday I get alittle more antsy for the weekend.

TRI OR DU ?


There is less than 5 days until Galena. Water temperature is up to 59 degrees. If the water does not go over 60 , they will cancel the swim and make it a duathlon. The next update will be tomorrow morning. I am watching with mixed emotions.

After a 9 hours of training last week, I'll back things down this week. My legs have been tired. My plan for the week:

Monday: 3 mile run (pm)
Tuesday : swim (am) / bike(pm)
Wednesday: 3 mile run (pm)
Thursday : swim (am)
Friday: short bike (am)/drive to Galena.

What makes a great Mother's Day? For me, it's a quiet day at home. I hate going out to eat on Mother's day. Everywhere is so crowded and chaotic. Too crazy to have a conversation with my kids.

Today, I woke up early ,grabbed my wetsuit and headed for the gym. As I walked out the door, I took a peek at both kids sleeping soundly. How lucky I am. They are 16 and 17 with a great future ahead of them. That was the best Mother's day present.

As I was driving to the gym my thoughts went to my mom. She passed away in 1991. I remembered her love of flowers. Every year we had a special place to go for dinner by the Little Miami River. It's still there today and I am thinking of all the families there sharing that tradition today.

My workout was almost non-existent. The most challenging part was putting my wetsuit on. I wanted to swim in it before Galena just in case we do swim. I floated and swam in the pool for about an hour. At 7am it was time for masters swim. After doing the beginning of the workout, I realized just how tired that I was. I had ridden 31 miles yesterday. My legs felt worn out. After the beginnning of swim, I knew that I'd never make it through the workout. I got out and talked to coach. He made me feel alot better and knew it was OK just to head for the showers.

This afternoon, I have the house to myself. My plan is to download and add some new music to my MP3.
