FEELING LIKE FALL

RUN: 55 MIN

You could feel the change in the air today. The breeze was from the north. The sun was shining off and on. As I headed out with Dakota to run, wwe saw all the geese had returned to the ponds. We turned on to a side road next to a corn field. I could hear the farmer's combine going through the field. I love this time of year.

The run was good. I had no goals but to just get it in. My legs were alittle tired from spinning this week twice.

OUT OF THE COMFORT ZONE

SPIN : 60MIN

Mary had a great class tonight. She pushed us out of our comfort zone. It was challenging. There were times I didn't think I could make it but you learn to hang in there and how far you can push it. It was a rotation of speed intervals and sprints on hills.

Mary leaves on Tuesday for Moab Utah to do an extreme Expedition. After the race begins Thurs, her team and her will cover 250-300 miles by Sunday. The must follow a map, bike ,repel, kayak, and run. Here is the tracking web site-Checkpoint tracker anf her team is "Time of my life". She is awesome.!

HALF A CENTURY!!!

1956-On this day 50 years ago , I was born in Columbus ,Ohio. My birth mother was an unwed and 19. She gave me up for adoption to some nuns in Cinncinnati. My parents came and got me when I was 7 weeks old. They took me in to their loving home on Sidney, Ohio.

1966- I am 10 years old and in the fifth grade. My grandmother lived just 4 blocks from school and I ate lunch with her everyday. She fell in the summer and broke her hip. She never came home from the hospital. In the fall, we moved to a new house and away from my friends in the neighborhood. It was a tough year.

1976- I am now 20 years old. I've graduated from x-ray school and working at a hospital in Springfield , Ohio. I've been married for a year. This is the 70's so our weekends are spent partying and going to the bars. It was a wild time in my life.

1986- I am now 30 years old. My marriage sucks. My husband is still partying while I've grown up. He is a runner and gotten me involved in running also in a club. I ran my first half marathon on my birthday (1:58). I thought I was so slow. I am also still at the the same hospital now doing CT scanning. My husband does not want kids and it is becoming a big problem.

1996- I've gotten divorced(1987) and remarried(1989). My husband is wonderful. We have a daughter and son(Hooch and Bino). We now live in New England. We just bought a log cabin in the country. My mother passed away in 1991 and I miss her. My father is doing great. He and his friend Dot drove up to our house to celebrate my birthday. I am not working but looking for a part time job . I applied at Walmart to be a greeter but they said I was overqualified. I am not running anymore.

2006- I am still married to the same wonderful man. Both of my kids are in high school. We moved from New England to Cleveland to Chicagoland because of my husband's promotions. I work as a lead radiation therapist in a cancer care center which I love. Everyone that I work with are my family. I am running again. I've completed the Chicago marathon twice, 6 half marathons, 3 duathlons, and some 5 ks. I'm heavier and slower and older. My dad is 84 and still with Dot. My inlaws are doing great. I feel that after a half of a century-my life has the best of everything.

WILD DOGS ON MOUNTAIN

Tonight in spin class, Mary had us riding hills. That's not unusual--- but the wild dogs that showed up while we were on a mountain in West Virginia added a challenge. It was speed intervals while hill climbing. Wow , what a workout. There were only a couple of short recovery periods. I realized how out of shape I was. This was my last workout as a person in their 40's. Next time on Thursday I'll be the 50 year old in the class. Bring it on!!!

SPIN: 60 MIN.

SKIPPED YOGA AGAIN!

Did I say that I hated yoga? I know after one class I shouldn't say that. I know my flexibility sucks. It would be great to help my core strength. But---------it's 70 and sunny outside. It's a perfect fall evening. Dakota was filled with extra energy. So out the door I went. So much for yoga(maybe next week). I totally enjoyed the run and had some good music on.(Melissa Ethridge) I only did 30 min because my legs were tired and I have spin tomorrow.

Run: 30 min.

FLYING PIG FACT:Pigs are intelligent and have been placed fourth on the intelligence list (humans are first, primates are second, dolphins/whales are third and pigs are fourth).

SLACKER SUNDAY

I got up this am and planned to head out to run first thing. But it again was an ugly day. I decided to go to early mass(8am). Maybe run later. I wanted to run 60 min. After church rather than heading home, I stopped at the store to pick up a few things. For the next few hours , I did everything except run. By noon - I knew it was now or never. Dakota and I headed out with no route or exact time in mind. I just listened to my music and ran. I ended up back home 50 min. later.

The sun came out just as I got home. It ened up to be a beautiful day.

Run: 50 min. / ave pace 13:14
