SWIM LESSON #2

Last night was swim lesson #2. I did not do as well as the first one. We started off by back float and side float with flutter kick-no problem. Then cam the part where you add the breathing to the side float. My childhood swim lessons came back to me in a rush. I can't exhale or blow bubbles into the water. It goes out my mouth but not my nose. Is that stupid or what? I am surprised there is any water left in the pool- I sucked it all down. Besides the breathing we added an arm motion. I defintely need some pool time before next class. Would it be stipid to wear nose plugs until I got better or would it be a bad habit?

Also last night was the season premier of THE BIGGEST LOSER. I love that show and wish I could be on it. I can't wait until nest week when the Black team shows up with Jillian.

Waddling while exhaling.....................

I love that show too! I was so happy when Jillian pulled up on her bike! She is da bomb.

BTW, you are way too small to be on that show. You'd be done losing weight after the first or second week and you team would hate you 'cause you'd be all buff and trim and not losing weight, LOL!

Keep with the swimming. It takes time, but it will get better, I'm proof. A year ago I couldn't swim 1 lap and now look at me. :)

You rock!

I really think it is just a matter of practice. Keep at it!

Swimming is a fully new skill set...keep practicing...you'll get it. You have all the motivation, now you just need the muscle memory. Be patient, be persistant...you'll be gliding through the water soon!!! Enjoy the journey!

I have been wearing a nose plug for at least 10 years, after becoming extremely sensitive to chlorine. I even wear one in races now. Saves on the sinuses. People I know who have tried them and don't like them however just breathe out through the nose. So either way. You just have to see what you like.

Get a big bowl (clear) and fill it full of water, put on your goggles and sit at the table. Put your face in the water and practice blowing the air out through your mouth until you are comfortable. Then practice blowing out through your nose. WHen you are comfortable with that, blow out and switch back and forth while your face is in the water. I swear this works, I did it and I found it on a tri website. It allows you to practice without having to be in the water and trying to coordinate it with all the other stuff. And tell you hubby and son not to laugh, you don't want to snort any water, although my family laughed at me and thought it was hilarious. It works great!

As always, thanks for your encouragement. By the way... temperature forecast for your half is still looking good..... in the 50's and 60's.

Everyone already gave you great advice, so I'll just give you some encouragement!

You are determined and I think you'll get the breathing/swimming thing down in no time! And, yeah, you're too small to be on Biggest Loser! I understand completely about a goal weight/body fat percentage, etc. You're already ahead of things by all of the running, biking, and now swimming you're doing. Next is to find a nutritional lifestyle (NOT DIET) that you can handle for the long term.

I really admire your determination!
