What do these 2 things have in common???
The answer is my son ,Bino ! After years of desire by Bino and a driving need to serve his country, yesterday Bino signed the papers for deferred enlistment. He has chosen to be an M1Abrams Tank crewmember and will leave after his senior year of high school at Plainfield North on June 30,2010. He will report for basic and tank training at Fort Knox, Kentucky on July 5,2010.
I have never in my life experienced the gamut of emotions that I went through this week. From the pride in what he has chosen to do followed by the terror of what could happen to him. In between those there have been around a million other emotions. Over the next year before he leaves, I am sure that I will experience even more.
Waddling with pride and love for my son.............

As a current US Army Officer, I say thank you to you for having raised a son who wants to join me in my Army. Please pass on my thanks to your son, I am thankful and so proud of our young men and women who decide to join the military today.
Boy, am I with you on this!! Having had two of my three sons join the Army, I understand so very, very well.
First off, congratulations to Bino for making this choice...it is a very honorable one and one you can be proud it.
For you, keep learning about the Army. I had no background at all when David enlisted and learned much which was hugely helpful. It's a good place.
And you have my email address...feel free to shoot me a note ... we can even set up a phone call if you'd like. Other parents have sure helped me, will be glad to return the favor to you and House.

Wow - congratulations to Bino. I know what a big step that is on his part (having done the exact same thing by joining the Navy under their deferred enlistment program in between my junior and senior years in hs). Only recently have I begun to see it from the mom angle. I wish you all the very best as you become an Army family!
That is a huge step. Congratulations to Bino for making that decisions. As a mom, I can imagine the range of emotions you've gone through this week, but, still, you must be so proud.
