GOOD ADVICE

SUNDAY : ZERO
MONDAY: RUN / 45 min.
TUESDAY : SPIN / 60 min.

Tonight was the last spin class before the PIG. It was a good workout. My legs were really tired. The best part of the night was talking to Mary( the instructor and friend) after class. Her background is that she has done marathons and currently is involved in adventure expedition racing. She is training for Moab in October. He advice to me is to remember a huge part of the marathon is mental. From now until the PIG taper physically but ramp up the mental training. Being postive with no doubts is crucial. I never thought of it that way but I believe it's true.

Waddling to watch American Idol.........

Oh she's so right. I imagined myself crossing the finish line so many times that by the time I did it was old hat. For my first marathon I actually danced across the finish. It was cool.

I hope you see yourself as well prepared as I see you. That isn't just idle pep talk, either. You really put in the miles and your body is definitely ready. Just wrap your head and your heart around it and they day will be yours!

Well you know what they say: running a marathon(or whatever) is 10% physical and 90% mental. I have found that with increasing my running miles lately that it has helped more to have a positive attitude rather than worry about how far I am going. I know you will do great in this race and just think: its almost here!

Yes, it is mental, and like the others are saying, a positive mental attitude will get you to the finish line, especially knowing that you have put in the training. I'm very excited for you and I will definetly be with you there in spirit!

That is good advice. The mental part is huge.

Besides the positive attitude, I'd encourage you to also mentally rehearse what you are going to do. Particularly at the start...getting there, what to wear, how to line up, reviewing pace, then pay attention to the first five miles, what you'll do on the R/W, the pace, etc. All this will get you into a good rhytym and a good groove for the rest of the race.

Love the countdown...enjoy it!

I totally buy into the idea that being positive with no doubts as CRUCIAL.
