PERSPECTIVE

Today's weather continued to be extremely hot and humid. Even though it was 90 outside the humidity put the heat index over 100. I waited until the sun was setting to run. As bad as last night's workout was today was amazingly better. I ran 4 miles. It felt ok. With the way the weather was, I did not pay any attention to my pace. My goal was only to complete my run. This I did achieve.

Everytime that I doubt myself or have a day like yesterday, I have a day at work that re-adjusts my perspective. This was one of those days. One of my patients that I treated today was 40 and a very active person. They recently found out that they have a cancer in their spinal canal from top to bottom. Without treatment they will be paralyzed. When I look back at how whiney that I was with a short workout, I feel embarassed compared to what this person is facing. I take for granted how lucky that I am to be able to get out and run or bike. Thanks for the reminder not to take life for granted.

CRAP

Crap. That one word descibes tonight's excercise. Because of the weather, which was very stormy and humid, I decided to head to the treadmill at the gym. When I began running, I felt like I had never run before. My left rib hurt from the jarring. I just could not run. After 10 minutes I quit and headed for the elliptical trainer and survived 20 minutes. I can;t believe what happened.

I do need to taper for Sunday. But talk about a ego deflater.

NOT MEANT TO BE

Today when I woke up an turned on the radar, it looked like the above. No a morning to head out on a 55 mile ride alone on a road bike. I put my head down and fell back to sleep. I would see what I could work in later.

When I did get up at 9, everyone in the house was gone. My daughter to work. My hubby and son to the RT 66(dragway) to run the Firebird. I went to make some breakfast and realized that I needed to go to the grocery. So off I went.

While I put the groceries away, I realized Ironman Kona 2006 was on TV again. I sat down and could not pull myself away. I was totally inspired again. I cried and head chills the entire 2 hours.

At 4pm finally I was heading out the door. I grabbed my mountain bike and headed for a local trail. After about 12 miles, the sky began looking dark so I headed for home. Just 5 minutes after walking in the door, the tornado sirens went off.

On a different subject , last night I did something out of the box. Out of the blue-I got a tattoo. My neighbor was going to get one so we went with her and her hubby. I found a penguin that I fell in love with. Next thing I know-there was no turning back. I actually like it and my kids were in shock.

NOTES-

After a crazy week at work, I was so glad it was finally the weekend. While on the computer yesterday, I found an organized ride on Sunday which is only 10 minutes from my house. I looked at my options and decided on the 55 mile ride. Choices were 20, 30, 45, 55, 85, or 102. My race that I am working for in September has a ride section of 36 miles.

So now the length of my run for today was up in the air. I haven't figured this multisport stuff out yet but the one article I read advised to run long only every 2-3 weekends. My goal became 8 and I ended up with a comfortable 8.75. Luckily today the sun stayed in and the heat stayed lower.

Next weekend is the USAT Mideast Tri/Du Championship in Sylvania,Ohio. The list released today shows only 2 others in my age group. After tomorrow's ride, I'll back it down some.

I received my volunteer confirmation e-mail from Ironman Louisville. I am so excited. I hope I can meet some of the bloggers that I have been watching train. I'll be working at the first transition until 930am then at the finish line from 7pm until the end at midnight. I'll be glad to support anyone that needs any help.

HOT BRICK

It was another hot and humid day in the 90's. My plan is to do a brick workout every Thursday. Hopefully it will help get my legs used to coming off the bike and running. The first half mile is always tough. The ride went really well. I was thinking of running 3 but the heat backed me down to 2.

The week-end weather is going to be tough. I am planning a 10 miler on Saturday followed by a long ride on Sunday.

I TOLD YOU SO!

This morning my alarm went off at 5am. The reason was so that I would get up and run before the heat and humidity hit today. I rolled over and ignored it. My hubby mentioned that i might want to beat the heat. My reply was a mumbled,"If I complain tonight- you can say I told you so!"

After work it was about 95 and very humid. I waited until the sun was going down to head out. I so regretted not getting up this morning. I was putting on my shoes talking to myself about how hot it still was when hubby walked by and said-I TOLD YOU SO.

I felt not so bad and did 2 miles of tempo running with a one mile warmup and cool down. My rib pain was a 3 out of a 10(worst). It did not hinder my breathing at all.
